Restoration should not be confused with remodeling and is often more difficult. A restoration can be as simple as putting a house back together after a fire, or repairing smoke damage, or it may be taking a 100 year old building and making look like it did the day it was originally built. The latter is a more difficult task, as the material originally used may not be readily available, there may be code changes to incorporate and certainly techniques have changed in 100 years.
- Two Story South Pasadena Home - The restoration portion of this project came in when we needed to replace certain elements, such as the wood flooring, stair treads, railings and baseboards. Due to the age of the home, these items are made from rift sawn white oak, verses quarter sawn red oak, which is common but would not match in grain or color. For this reason, each piece of flooring and railing had to be specially milled for our project and the baseboard, even though it is painted and you cannot see the grain, the profile could not be matched and had to be milled as well. You can read more about our work on this home in the Remodeling section of our website.
